| BRIAN BUNKER |
| STUDIO GUITARIST, LOS ANGELES, CA |
BIO/RESUME Brian was born in Orange County, CA, and grew up in Moreno Valley, CA, a suburb of Los Angeles about 60 miles east of the city, near Riverside. He discovered the guitar, thanks to his uncle's instrumental intervention, in 1995 while finishing high school. He was so enamored with the instrument that within months he had decided to change his major at the University of California, Riverside (or UCR) to music. By the time he finished his B.A. there in 1999, Brian had played with nearly every performing ensemble at the University, from the Jazz Ensemble to the Javanese Gamelan. While at UCR, he studied with Bob Scarano, a student of Howard Roberts who teaches with the same concepts and methods. Brian ended up staying on at UCR until 2001, receiving an M.A. in the process. After graduating in 2001, Brian performed around Southern California with various artists and as a soloist, playing functions, parties, weddings and other events. He enjoyed stints in backing bands for impersonators and musical revues, played in weddings with string quartets and trios, and played clubs and coffeehouses with small jazz groups. He also began recording work for demos and commercial releases, for artists from Jamelia to Jamila Ford, from The Honeyz to the DF Trio. In 2003, Brian embarked on the MS Veendam, performing on board as showband guitarist. His duties on board included performing for shows for one-night-only performers, working as a soloist and with a trio in various lounges, and playing for special functions on the ship. Brian eventually stayed with Holland America for several tours on several ships, including the MS Volendam and MS Westerdam's inaugural cruise. Since 2006, Brian and his wife Ellie have been living and performing throughout the Los Angeles area, both on their own and together as "Duo Bunker" and with the "Atlantic String Ensembles." Ellie is also musical director at Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy in La Canada, Flintridge, CA. Brian is available for performance and recording throughout Southern California, and further afield for e-mail recording projects and light travel. He has several projects currently in progress, including arrangements of Haydn works for guitar solo, acoustic, classical and jazz CD's, and is compiling tracks for production music in TV and radio.
